By: Elaine Sulkey, RN
August 2004

Vitamin B-12 injections are scheduled in the Internal Medicine Department at the Allergy Office.

Office hours for injections are::

Monday - Closed

Tuesday - 1:30 pm – 4:50 pm

Wednesday - 1:30 pm – 4:50 pm

Thursday - 9:00 am – noon 1:30 pm – 4:50 pm

Friday - 9:00 am – noon 1:30 pm – 4:50 pm

If your physician has told you that you need vitamin B-12 injections, it is given every month for the rest of your life. Your body has a vitamin B-12 deficiency and is unable to absorb this particular vitamin from foods or pills. Vitamin B-12 must be given as an injection to get directly into the blood stream to maintain the proper level of B-12 in your system.

Some symptoms you may experience due to lack of B-12 are weakness, fatigue, light-headedness, dizziness, numbness and tingling.

Foods high in vitamin B-12 are dairy products (milk), eggs and fish (salmon). Even though you eat these foods your body is unable to absorb the B-12 from them so you must supplement with the injection. Remember, this a monthly injection for the rest of your life.
